The Fusion Ensemble, Spark Choir, House Band, Rap Collective and Chamber Choir are the five Inspiring Excellence ensembles comprising the most passionate young musicians from across the Ark network. The students have been rehearsing so far this year, learning music from different cultures and genres. The residential weekend is an essential part of the annual programme, giving students a rare opportunity to spend three days immersed in music and creativity, and to develop life skills.
The weekend allowed students to further develop their musical and creative skills as they work alongside a number of artists, teachers, and of course, each other. The programme of activities included a balance of rehearsals, creative workshops, adventure activities and games. Even a Celidh dance! This was all in preparation to perform at the Inspiring Excellence Showcase, taking place at Regent Hall London, on 6th July 2024.
11 students attended from Ark Pioneer, from Singers, Brass and String players, Saxophonists, Flautists and Bass Guitar players to rehearse as part of the Sparks Choir, Fusion Orchestra and House Band. Pupils stayed for two nights at Grosvenor Hall in Kent
One pupil said "The best part was the chamber groups being able to with students from other Ark schools and from the different Ark Ensembles such as the Fusion Orchestra and House Band" and from Alex in Year 9 "One of the best experiences I’ve ever had in music. I had so much fun. The teachers leading the rehearsals treated me with respect and listened to my opinions. The most enjoyable part was meeting new people and having the opportunity to play my instrument in front of all the other members the Ark community".
