Pathways
We offer two key pathways at Ark Pioneer Sixth Form.
A Level Pathway
We offer an exciting range of A Level subjects that we know are valued highly by good universities, and that allow you to keep your progression options as open as possible. Most students will study three linear A levels; some will take a fourth subject, depending on GCSE results.
Entry criteria: 3 subjects at GCSE Grade 6-9 and 2 at Grade 5-9 including at least Grade 4 in English and Maths. You will also need to meet the individual entry criteria for specific subjects.
Professional Pathways
Professional Pathways is an innovative programme of study for pupils across the Ark Schools Network. Students work towards a BTEC Extended Diploma while also completing a ‘wraparound’ work readiness programme, exclusive to Ark schools. This programme is aimed at preparing students to apply for selective universities or for progression directly into employment through school leaver programmes or degree apprenticeships.
We offer two Professional Pathways in Business and Applied Science.
Entry criteria: 3 subjects at GCSE Grade 5-9 and 2 at Grade 4-9 including at least Grade 4 in English and Maths. To complete the Professional Pathway Science you must have achieved at least a 5-4 in Trilogy Science.
Our Offer
At Ark Pioneer, our school vision is that when our pupils leave us they will have real options, be it going on to a course of their choice at university or starting out in their chosen career. At Ark Pioneer Sixth form, we support pupils to access the very best destinations through expert teaching and developing their leadership over years 12 and 13.
The Best Destinations: We offer access to the best destinations possible for every child, whether accessing our A Levels or Professional Pathways qualifications. We develop students’ skills in applications, entry testing, interviewing and securing places at top universities, paid degree
apprenticeships and desirable career opportunities. Our students benefit from targeted careers education, university visits and relevant, career-focused work experience.
Expert Teaching: We offer expert teaching and support in every subject discipline and across our applied courses, benefiting from Ark network support as well as Key Stage 5 exam board expertise. Pupils’ academic progress will be front and centre, supported by high expectations, ongoing diagnostic assessment and specific support for success in end of course examinations.
Developing Leaders: Our personal development programme is tailored to ensuring every individual thrives, developing leadership skills and the professional competencies needed to be successful. Sixth form pupils are given opportunities to lead events, societies and to support younger pupils in the school. Our Pioneer Diploma develops sought after qualities and facilitates meaningful experiences for every student. The Diploma recognises pupils’ achievements in sport, the arts, community service, and commitment to university and career readiness. These are incredibly important parts of sixth form education that are not recognised in academic qualifications alone.
Access game-changing bursaries
We are delighted to provide our sixth form pupils with the opportunity to apply for Ark Higher Education Bursaries. These are made available to any pupil studying at an Ark school and are particularly targeted to support pupils in financial need.
Last year 55 bursaries were awarded totalling over £700,000. These were paid to cover students’ living costs at university.
If you have any questions about the Ark Higher Education Bursary scheme, please contact us at info@arkpioneer.org
