Diversity and inclusion

Our pupils know and understand the importance of showing respect to everyone, whatever differences we may have, and to everything, whether it is a school resource or a religious belief. We promote and celebrate diversity by celebrating events such as Black History Month, LGBTQ+ Pride, remembering the Holocaust, International Women's Day and recognising and learning about different religious festivals over the course of each year.

Ark Pioneer is committed to providing a fully accessible environment, which values and includes all pupils, staff, parents and visitors regardless of their education, physical, sensory, social, spiritual, emotional and cultural needs. We are committed to challenging negative attitudes about disability and accessibility, and to developing a culture of awareness, tolerance and inclusion.

Our inclusive approach to curriculum aims to widen participation and engagement with our subjects long after pupils have left school. 

We reflect and represent diverse perspectives throughout our curriculum through our choice of topics, for example the history curriculum; reading materials, for example literature chosen in Reading for Pleasure lessons and in trips out into the community for example, our altruism group visiting a local community centre and our residential opportunities to travel to France.

As a result, our curricula help pupils to develop an understanding of how they relate to the subjects they are studying, and use this knowledge to appreciate, critique and, if they desire, change the world in which they live.

We want to reflect and represent diverse perspectives across our organisation because we know that doing so will make us stronger, more connected and enhance our pupils' education.
