We were delighted to reward all Year 8 pupils for their hard work this year with a trip to the Tower of London on Friday 28th June. With a journey via Bank, the Monument to the Great Fire of London, and the Thames (where pupils saw up close the Shard, HMS Belfast and Tower Bridge), all groups arrived by 11 ahead of an enriching visit.

Pupils were introduced to the Tower site by one of the school’s History teachers, before being guided through Tudor royal chambers, torture dungeons, cells where prisoners were kept, battlements, and eventually the Crown Jewels exhibition. There, pupils were fascinated with the different crowns and procession items, as well as the Yeoman Warders and royal guards on duty. Mark (8 Robinson) even offered his Jammie Dodgers to a warder, who was absolutely delighted. The pupils had their picnic lunch in the main courtyard of the castle, before groups headed to the White Tower, the heart of the fortress. Weaponry, statues and armours were all on display, as well as some interactive activities for the pupils to try out. Overall, the year group was able to witness first-hand how the Tower was used across time as a palace, a fortress, a prison, a home, and even as a zoo!

It was overall a wonderful display of the pupils’ curiosity and desire to learn. We are proud of how they represented the school.
