Last week Y10 pupils visited Stratford to complete their Human Geography Fieldwork investigation for their GCSE. Each pupil collected data through environmental quality surveys, a regeneration survey, field sketches and interviews to assess whether the regeneration of Stratford for the 2012 Olympics was successful in its original aims - to improve social, economic, and environmental opportunities in the area.

Our pupils loved the challenge of finding people to interview on both sites. Some managed to interview a gamer in East Village about their opinions on the regeneration of the area, whilst others interviewed residents at Carpenters Estate. We also got to enjoy lunch in the sun in the Olympic Park and admired the Canadian geese and ducklings flocking to the regenerated wetland areas, by the River Lea!

Ms Harris, Head of Year 7 & Geography Teacher: “Today, Geography really came alive for our Y10s and it was so wonderful to see them do us proud when conducting interviews with the public and how much care they put into their research.”

Something which the Geography Team agreed upon was how concepts and ideas learned about in lessons such as regeneration, connectivity, brownfield sites, biodiversity, quality of life and access to services, became much more meaningful to our pupils through doing fieldwork.
