Last week six groups of Year 9 pupils used their quick-thinking, code-cracking, puzzle-solving skills to complete various language-based challenges.
The competition, put on by GCHQ, was a national language challenge in which over 3000 teams took part. Pupils were given a rare glimpse into what it’s like to be a language analyst working at GCHQ.
Congratulations to winners Niyati, Ayman, Ellie and Andreas. 6285 points puts them #64 in the UK out of over 3000 teams!
Here’s what pupils thought:
First we thought it was quite hard and we took a long time to do a challenge however when we showed courage and modelled determination we started to gain momentum and win points and it really boosted our team spirit. When we did the challenge correctly it gave me a big sense of satisfaction! – Ayman 9 Williams
I think it was really fun – to begin with it was hard but then we started to understand more, and it made more sense. We learnt how to work as a team and to play to each other’s strengths, for example some people were better at the translation challenges. I think we learnt about what it means to help each other and work together towards a goal instead of what is good for ourselves. – Ellie 9 Williams
