This pilot programme supports students who display exceptional talent in performance, composition, and production. Following a competitive audition process, fifteen Ark pupils were awarded places on the 18-month programme, two of these were from Pioneer:
Naomi, Singer songwriter - , Year 9, Ark Pioneer
“I was so surprised when I got an Ark Music scholarship. I can see myself doing GCSE music now. And now I’m in the best choir I’ve ever been in. if I didn’t go to an Ark school, I wouldn’t have got half as good at music as I am now. Ark Music has made it 10 times better”
Gavin, Violinist - Year 10, Ark Pioneer
"My favourite thing about the scholarship programme was watching a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, and it was my first time attending this type of concert. I think my favourite piece was "Holst Jupiter the bringer of jollity". I liked this one because the style was a bit different, you can feel the feelings from space whilst listening to the music.
I want to have a music career, not sure exactly what yet but something music-related. I think being a scholar and being in an orchestra like fusion will help to get me more comfortable to play in front of people. I feel nervous every time performing, but when performing in front of people in groups of people I know, friends that I have made, I feel more comfortable. It feels kind of amazing. I'm with a bunch of musicians. I think when I perform, I'm most nervous about getting something wrong, but when performing within the group I know, I feel comfortable because if I get something wrong, I know I can just start again. Ark music has given me a great musical experience!"
So far, students have developed their skills through one-to-one tuition and coaching, attended away days at 3rd level institutions, used their personal allowance to buy equipment, and attended exclusive experiences, inspiring shows and concerts.
Well done Gavin & Naomi, we are so proud of what you have already achieved.
