Winter Photography Winner

Friday 17 December 2021

This December we held a photography competition for all pupils. Pupils were asked to take a photograph inspired by the word ‘Winter’, with the judges looking for images that were beautiful, moving, relatable, technically impressive or unexpected.

Mr Critchley, Lead Teacher of Art, commenting on the winner said: With his submission Saifeislam encourages us to retreat from the daily hustle and bustle of school life to contemplate the humble beauty of Barnet. From his vantage point amongst the tangled branches of a leafless tree, his lens draws our eyes to the saturated red of the waiting buses, singing out merrily against the stark white snow. In this way his simple yet elegant composition achieves a balance between opposites. Left and right, foreground and background, natural and man-made, observational and participatory states. At a time of year when it is easy to forget what is truly important, Saif’s image grounds us in the moment with gratitude for what we have.'
