Ark Pioneer Academy were incredibly honoured to have Anu Ralhan, Senior Actuary for the Bank of England as our first career speaker of this academic year.
Anu, who normally works in the Bank of England but is currently working from home due to the pandemic spoke to our year 7 and 8 pupils virtually in each of their homerooms.
Anu wowed the pupils when describing the various areas of Actuary that one could work in. A particular stand out was the role of analysing the risk involved in launching satellites into orbit in order to calculate the level of insurance needed. He also shared his own journey through education and how he had to get used to taking exams as these continued beyond his school life. Edwin in 8 Ardern commented “I really enjoy Maths, so it was interesting to see how I could use maths everyday in a career. I also feel more motivated for exams now as Anu showed can you can learn to be confident with exams and look at these as steps to be successful”.
Anu then opened the floor to questions from the pupils and one question regarding this greatest career achievement stuck out to him so much, that pupil was awarded a very special prize directly from the Bank of England.
