Pupils take to the polls for the Academy Council election.
This week saw a great number of our Year 7 & 8 pupils stand as nominees for election to the Academy Council. Pupils were tasked with writing a short speech as to why they would make a good representative not only for their homegroup but also for our school and wider community.
Pupils have also discussed the benefits of being elected as a member of the academy council and these include; working as part of a diverse team, improving their soft skills such as listening to others and communicating respectfully with people they disagree with alongside getting to represent the school at internal and external events.
Ms Pick, Form tutor to 7Williams said “I was very impressed with the quality and thought put into they pupil speeches. It was clear so many of our pupils have high aspirations and are eager to make a positive impact during their time in secondary education”.
Today there was great excitement over lunch as we saw the whole school community take the polls and cast their vote to elect their pupil representatives. Votes are currently being counted and our newly elected Academy Council members will be announced and receive their badges this Friday during assembly.
The academy council is only one of the ways in which pupils can get involved in student leadership. At Ark Pioneer we also offer other opportunities for pupils to get involved in leadership so watch out for more information regarding the following student leadership roles at a later date.
- Library leaders
- Eco-schools committee
- Sports leaders
