National Cup Round 2

Goals : Dexter P x 3

Team: Ethan, Caleb, Teo, Kwabena, Josh, Alistair, Preston, Malachi, Dexter, Maksim, Samuel & Yaqob

Ark Pioneer Academy played their first competitive football game on Wednesday afternoon, having received a bye in the first round of the National Cup. The second round saw us host Desborough College, a team who strolled to a 10-1 win in the previous round.

The game started very intensely and an error at the back saw the visitors take a 1-0 lead, this lead was doubled mid-way through the first half as Ark Pioneer looked to get an equaliser. When attacking we caused a threat throughout the first half and finally broke through, Dexter scoring the first ever Ark Pioneer goal. The teams went in at half time 2-1.

Half time allowed Mr Burton to reorganise the team. He wanted the players to come out quickly in the second half, now that they had adapted to the pace of the game. Very quickly after the break Ark Pioneer equalised through Dexter, getting his second on the game. As the game was reaching the last ten minutes, both teams pushed for a winner, Desborough College caught us on the counter and made it 3-2. As we searched for the equaliser, we again got caught, making the game 4-2. However, the drama wasn’t finished, Dexter scored an unbelievable lob, completing a fantastic hat-trick and making the game 4-3.

Every player was a fantastic ambassador for Ark Pioneer Academy and demonstrated a key value; modelling determination. We have lots to work on, but it’s an exciting time for our football team after lots of positives within our first competitive game.
