Ark Pioneer’s First Give Final

Friday 16 July 2021

Over the summer term, Y8 pupils have been taking part in the first give social action projects. Last week saw our school community celebrate all the hard work done by the pupils in raising awareness and money for their chosen charity. Each group completed a presentation on the actions and outcomes of their social action projects in a bid to win an additional £1,000 for their chosen charity.

Isaac Jones, the head of programmes at First give, alongside Mr Rouse, Head of Y8 and Ms Britton were our head judges for the final and they had a very difficult job in deciding a winner, so much so certain groups and pupils were awarded special commendations. In the end the winning form group, who were presented with the cheque for £1,000 for their charity of KEEN London was 8 Rashford.

Below you will see the list of charities that our Y8 form groups decided to work with:

8 Ardern – MQ Mental Health

8 Johnson – Victim Support

8 Lawrence – Barnet Food Bank

8 Yousfzai – News Citizens Gateway

8 Winfrey – Homeless Action Barnet

8 Moore – Redthread

8 Rashford – Keen London

Ms Ryan, Principal at Ark Pioneer also commented ‘It was so important to us to give our pupils’ the chance to engage in social action early in their secondary education. We want every pupil to learn how we can support those who are vulnerable in our communities, modelling our school values of integrity and kindness. First Give brought out these Pioneer values and more, teaching pupils how to collaborate, organise and present their ideas. We can see the confidence they’ve developed as well as the sense that even at a young age, they can make a difference. Thank you to the First Give team – and we look forward to working with you again next year.’
