Academic Intervention

Our Intervention Programmes
We recognise that while Excellent Teaching is the first and most important step to raising achievement for all pupils, some require additional support outside of the main curriculum, whether this is academic support, support with physical and sensory needs or with mental well-being. Wherever possible, interventions take place outside of lesson time, to ensure pupils do not miss out on their curriculum experience across the subjects offered..
Academic Intervention
Pupils who have been identified as needing additional academic support in core subjects are offered additional 1:1 support provided by our team of Graduate Teaching Assistants, using additional revision and guidance materials created by their subject teachers. This is targeting for a small number of pupils where an urgent need for intervention as been identified.
Reading Intervention
At Ark Pioneer, we understand how important reading is to broaden pupils’ vocabulary and allow them to access the learning across the whole curriculum. At the start of each academic year, all pupils complete a Reading Age assessment, which allows us to identify barriers to reading early on. All pupils receive the offer of additional English, which includes lessons focused on Reading for Pleasure, however some pupils require additional reading support. We have invested in tried and tested programmes proven to accelerate progress with reading and literacy, such as ‘Reading Plus’ and ‘Read Write Inc: Fresh Start’, offered to pupils identified as needing this additional support.
